A Music and Movement Performance Chorus and so Much More!

Melody Makers is a creative and energetic performing arts chorus. The Melody Makers program engages children in expressive song, theatrical movement, diction and drama providing heartwarming performances for the entire Hendricks community to enjoy. Students gain confidence, build presentation skills and experience the joys of music, team work and creative expression from this dynamic program.

Join us for this lively music and movement performance class! Melody Makers is an independent program taught by a professional director, facilitated through HAEPTA. All classes are immediately after school from 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Kindergartners may meet for one hour - 2:30-3:30 p.m. – following a long school day.)  Classes are grouped by age and are open to kindergarten-fourth grade. Space is assigned by lottery and limited to 20 students for each class. (If an age group has less than 20 enrolled, they may be combined with another group for class – performances also may combine age groups depending on enrollment.

Class time begins with a warm welcome and a healthy after school snack. We learn various imaginative songs, theater dialogue, poetry and recitations. Each class ends with favorite games based on musicality and movement. This 10-week session includes wonderful performances for families and friends!

The fee for this quality 10-week program is $120 - wow, $10 a class ! This cost includes $20 registration fee, professional direction and instruction, theater props/costume, a Melody Makers T-shirt*, performance materials and a healthy snack! Siblings receive a 50 percent discount. A limited number of scholarships based on need are available from Melody Makers.

(Those already with a Melody Makers T-shirt, registration fee is reduced to $10 AND if you enroll for the next session in January, there is NO registration fee.)

About the Creative Director

The Melody Makers Chorus Director Ms. Laura Pena has been the Director of the Hendricks Avenue Elementary School’s Melody Makers Chorus for 10 years. Ms. Pena has also been the assistant director and dramatic stage presence Instructor of a popular local dance studio for 11 years. She has served as the always-favorite Hendricks Avenue Carnival Talent Show coordinator for the last six years.

In addition to several years of performing arts experience, Ms. Pena has served as a kindergarten assistant, exceptional education assistant and an elementary extended day instructor in Duval County schools. Currently, she is an active substitute teacher at Hendricks Avenue and other schools in Duval County.
